I can't stand starlings. They descend on my feeders in swarms and clear me out of suet or suet dough the instant I put it out. They keep trying to nest in my purple martin housing. They are taking over everywhere I go, with their filthy habits.
But, even I have to admit: There is something beautiful about a starling in winter plumage.

Beautiful starling! In my area starlings are enemies to the apple and cherry growers, so they trap and kill them. I have lots of red wing blackbirds, but no starlings, at my feeders right now. Starlings are great for ridding lawns of crane fly larva, so I've always likedd seeing them patrolling the yard.
You caught someof the irridesence of the starlings feathers. Good Job.
What a lovely picture of my least favorite bird. Well, my second least favorite bird. The house sparrow definitely is my least favorite.
I feel the same, Kathi. They are the first to attack the nuts and suet in the morning, wildly, without any courtesy. I hear them squealing nearby and cringe, knowing they're on their way for more. When the pigeons left, the Starlings returned. Oh, well...
You did capture their beautiful glow. I'd like to have a fine photo of one like that but they hate me :o)
