Backyard Birds

Spent most of today cleaning house, with frequent looks out the window. Here is my list (with "stock" photos, since I didn't have time to set up the digiscoping gear.)

Canada Goose (1 fly-over)
Red-shouldered Hawk (A pair calling and perching together in a tree across the road)
American Woodcock (FOS = First of the Season. At least two birds were doing their flight display at 6:40am when I took the dogs out. Heard only)
Mourning Dove
Red-bellied Woodpecker

Downy Woodpecker
American Crow

Blue Jay
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Northern Mockingbird

Eastern Bluebird (1 M)
European Starling
Brown-headed Cowbird
Red-winged Blackbird
Common Grackle (FOS)

Dark-eyed Junco
Northern Cardinal (high count 23. When I first moved here 10 years ago, I didn't have any cardinals.)
Song Sparrow
American Tree Sparrow

House Finch
American Goldfinch

House Sparrow

Hi Kathi,
That is good news giving hope for Spring. American Woodcocks on your property and already displaying, just wonderful ! Calling Red-shouldered Hawks too, must have been a fine day at your place, even though you were cleaning house.

The sunshine here today was lovely but winter still has a firm grip. At Lake Michigan, I saw Surf and White-winged Scoters, which was a great treat and worth the trip.

Nice list! Woodcocks (never had them here) and Grackles haven't appeared yet. I'm waiting...and also wondering where the bluebirds have gone.

My old blog was shut down, so here is my new one:

I love your photos, by the way.

I like to combine housework with bird watching also. My most interesting sightings lately have been a bald eagle fly over, as well robins and cedar waxwings perching in my tall locust tree. The sharp-shinned hawk has been keeping the birds on their toes lately.
